Manila: Celebrating Marine Life By Supporting The Turtle Hatching in Palawan

Boldr's Draw A Turtle Project from 2023 left a lasting impact on the conservation efforts of the Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute (LAMAVE) in Palawan, Philippines. Through the project, each drawing submission equated to a nest donation for turtle hatching, totaling 29 nests. This collective effort signifies more than just drawings, it symbolizes a commitment to marine life preservation and the protection of endangered species.

In February, the culmination of this effort was celebrated when LAMAVE organized a live-viewing event for the turtle hatching. The event highlighted the project's success and provided insights into LAMAVE's ongoing efforts, including youth training programs. Witnessing the hatchlings being released into the sea was a moving moment, highlighting the importance of such conservation endeavors. It is our aspiration that Boldr's support not only contributes to the survival of these turtles but also serves as a beacon of hope for the future of marine conservation.

Mexico: Ongoing Commitment to Clean Beaches in Yucatan

Our Merida team continued their environmental efforts with another successful beach cleanup as part of the Limpiemos Yucatán initiative. On February 24, a total of 83 dedicated volunteers gathered at Dzilam de Bravo beach, united in their mission to preserve the natural beauty of the coastline. Together, they collected an impressive 339 kg of trash, highlighting the magnitude of the impact that collective action can achieve.

The significance of this project extends beyond the immediate cleanup efforts. It serves as a reminder of the importance of environmental conservation and the role that each individual can play in protecting our planet. By actively engaging in initiatives like Limpiemos Yucatán, Boldranians not only contribute to cleaner beaches but also inspire others to take action in their communities.

South Africa: Cultivating Sustainability Through A Veggie Patch Initiative at Littlewood Primary School

Seeking a project that would not only be successful but also sustainable, Jenny Reynolds, the Impact program manager from our Cape Town office, started the 2024 Vegetable “Veggie” Patch initiative at Littlewood Primary School in Eastridge, Cape Town, in collaboration with Soil for Life.

Spearheaded by Sakeena Jeftha, together with six more volunteers, the project aimed to educate the community on self-sustainability and provide fresh produce for the school's feeding scheme. Since its inception, the project has achieved remarkable outcomes, with seeds planted in February now grown into healthy seedlings. The participants have embraced the project with enthusiasm, learning valuable lessons in gardening and the importance of sustainable practices. As carrots, radishes, onions, kale, peas, and many more vegetables grow, plans are already in place for future patches, highlighting its positive impact on food security and community engagement.
